ARROJO MEN’S RAZOR CUTTING DVD/HAIRCUT REVIEW :: “LONG & TEXTURED”
*This review is for the LONG & TEXTURED haircut provided on the Arrojo Razor Cutting Men DVD
I recently applied the techniques and sectioning of this video on two male clients who wanted to maintain their length and had similar texture and density to the model in the DVD. Although the video is presented as a razor cut, I used the sectioning and principles with shears on one client and a razor on another.
In general the video was easy to follow and understandable with good lighting, editing, and camera angles. The set and audio was a little lo-fi but what really counted (the explanation of techniques) was very good. The sectioning was clear as was the explanation of elevation and why the techniques were being performed. The stylist clearly offered tips on working with a razor, mentioning how thick the sections should be, where to look for the guide, and how to move the razor at different sections. She thoroughly described the texture and density of the model’s hair at different points of the head and related it to what she was doing.
Toward the end of the haircut, she used two Arrojo styling products and described why she was using them; a paste for “texture” and “pieceyness” and a cream for “shine” and “moisture”. It’s nice that she included the use of product in the video as it’s an essential part of being a salon stylist. The drying technique consisted of very quick footage of the stylist using her fingers to dry the hair.
Overall I thought the video was good. I would say that it’s probably around the basic/intermediate level and great for those who want to begin learning how to use a razor (like me…although I did cut a finger during this last one :-) and those who are looking to learn how to create a more masculine yet layered, long men’s shape.
The haircut is presented by Arrojo Stylist, Amanda Jenkins.
The DVD contains four men’s razor cuts and currently goes for $69.95 on Arrojo’s site. Follow the link and you can also see a preview of the video. It’s also available as one of the haircuts accessible as an Arrojo online education monthly subscriber ($30/month).
